Using Exercise to Boost Metabolism

If you’re hoping to give your metabolism a jump start, be sure to consider ways to use exercise to boost metabolism.

It’s not that hard to do, and it’s a double bonus when it comes to overcoming obesity because the exercise in and of itself is good for you, and the increased metabolism helps too.

So why exercise to boost metabolism?

Raising your metabolism is kind of like getting a free pass as far as calories go.

Your metabolism is the amount of energy, or calories, that your body needs to function.

It is the number of calories needed for:

  • Your organs to work properly
  • Your brain to function
  • Your heart to pump blood etc.

If you can raise the number of calories your body needs in a day, then you are essentially burning more calories each day.

If you exercise to boost your metabolism, and then you eat the same number of calories that you usually eat, you will lose weight.

For example, if your metabolism required you eat 2,000 calories a day to maintain your weight, and you found an exercise to boost your metabolism and raised your metabolism to 2,200 calories while still eating 2,000 calories, you’d be burning an extra 200 calories a day.

Add in the exercise you did to boost your metabolism in the first place, which could be several hundred more, and you’d be on your way to overcoming obesity.

For every 3,500 calories you burn more than what your metabolism needs, you lose a pound.

The main exercise that will boost your metabolism is weight training.

Lean muscle requires more energy than fat does, so if you can lift weights to increase the amount of lean muscle in your body you can raise your metabolism.

Using exercise to boost your metabolism results in a metabolism boost that can last hours after you’ve finished exercising.

If you choose an exercise that works the largest muscles in your body (such as your thighs and buttocks), the metabolism boost will last longer than those that work less muscle.

When considering exercise, the harder or more intense your exercise is, and the longer (time wise) you exercise for, will result in a bigger boost to your metabolism.

Again, also remember the bonus that exercising hard for longer amounts of time provides is it burns more calories.

This is a double bonus when it comes to losing weight.

Using exercise to boost metabolism, and causing your body to burn more calories, can be a great addition to any weight loss plan.
