Watch Out! The Dangers of the Zone Diet

While many claim the Zone Diet as an excellent tool for weight loss, there are still some dangers of the Zone Diet to be aware of.

Like any diet, there are pros and cons of the Zone Diet and it is important to be aware of both.

Discuss these with your physician before trying any weight loss plan, especially if you have specific health problems.

One of the dangers of the Zone Diet is the risk of ketosis.

Ketosis may sound like a familiar condition.

It is most commonly heard in reference to diabetics and results when insulin dependant diabetics can’t metabolize carbohydrates without their insulin injections.

This state can lead to a diabetic coma.

Since a major part of the Zone Diet is controlling insulin levels and keeping them in the “zone” for efficient fat burning, this is a serious danger of this diet.

Another one of the dangers of the Zone Diet is that it limits the amount of carbohydrates.

While the reduction of some types of carbohydrates can be healthy, at the levels the Zone Diet recommends dieters may end up deficient in:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables and
  • Whole grains.

Without these important foods, individuals would be getting inadequate amounts of fiber.

This can lead to simply uncomfortable side effects like constipation to much more serious effects like colon problems and cancer over time.

There are other dangers of this diet as well.

Besides lacking fiber, this diet would lead to deficiencies in other needed vitamins and minerals.

Since many foods thought to be healthy by experts are not recommended on the Zone Diet, like whole grain breakfast cereal and cheese, dieters may be lacking in essential nutrients.

While a supplement is recommended with this diet, many professionals feel natural sources of vitamins and minerals are still better.

While there are some very specific dangers of the Zone Diet, there are still some positives to this diet.

It encourages eating:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Low-fat protein and
  • Healthy fats, all of which should be part of a weight loss plan.

Also, the Zone Diet does boast significant weight loss results, which can lead to better health.

By using the Zone diet and following the steps below you will see significant weight loss results.

What You Can Do To Start Losing Weight Right Now:

  • Incorporate a proven, complete nutritional program into your daily life.
  • Enhance your nutritional program with a complete mutivitamin supplement because no nutritional program is perfect.
  • Use a behavior modification and motivational program that will help you stay on track with your nutritional plan.
  • Exercise at home with your own:

    Treadmill

    Stairstepper

    Exercise bike

    Elliptical trainer

    Hand weights or

    An aerobic video.

  • See what kinds of weight loss aids your health insurance covers such as:

    Hypnotism

    Gym membership discounts

    Nutritional counseling.

Before trying the Zone Diet, consider both the benefits and the dangers of the Zone Diet.

The Zone Diet is not for everyone, so discuss this weight loss plan with your physician before trying it.

However, if you are trying to overcome obesity, you may consider the Zone Diet.
